a little about Palmer Creek Homestead
I am a local farmer in Yamhill County who loves to grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, and whatever other plants and trees that provide something for something. My heart is to live off the land as much as possible, and use the resources already given to us with as little waste as possible. Everything has a use and a purpose. This past year, I was given the opportunity to follow my dreams, and have so many people that helped with that! My father and I took out much of the grass in the backyard, added in fresh compost, and put rows and rows of cut flowers in. I am an aspiring florist, and with the help of a great florist teacher and mentor, I am now specializing in bouquets, seasonal arrangements, corsages, boutonnieres, sprays, wedding and funeral flowers, and fine tuning my eye for arranging. I grow nearly all of what I use in the warmer months including dahlias, lilies, roses, gladiolus, daffodils, tulips, ranunculus, anemones, and zinnia's—including Florets. When I need flowers that are not grown here, I try to source locally in Yamhill County from other woman owned Flower Farms. In the winter months I bring in flowers to continue until things begin to bloom again in March— January if my tulip project works out... I never spray, and instead try to companion plant, use beneficial insects, and give the bees and other pollinators a sanctuary. Growing flowers is crucial for growing vegetables as flowers feed the pollinators 🐝 The more flowers that are grown, the more bees there are, and the more food we all will have. That’s why I do not spray. That little pollinator that is collecting pollen from my flowers, flies off to the neighbor's vegetable garden, then that family is then eating whatever pesticide was used. Just trying to do my part! ♥️ I start lots and lots of seeds and offer vegetable, herb, and flower starts year-round. In the Spring, you can plant and grow your own cut flower alongside me, and I do have about ten cold hardy flower start packages available. It will include flower starts, fall planted ranunculus, tulips, daffodils, a peony, and information on each. Let me know if you’d like to order one! Please reach out for any of your flower needs!
